Orthopedic Aids

Orthopedic aids are technical devices that serve to establish and repair damage to the locomotor system, to correct the aesthetic defects of the body and to provide assistance to disabled persons and to perform physiological movements and movements.

According to their purpose, orthopedic aids are divided into; prostheses, orthoses, orthopedic footwear, bandage accessories and other orthopedic supplies (crutches, sticks, walkers, cartridges, etc.)

Prostheses:

The prosthesis is a technical device (auxiliary), which should functionally and aesthetically compensate for a part of the body that is missing, most often missing a limb or part of the limb (limbs).

The prosthesis is usually used to replace body parts after injury (trauma) or to replace missing parts of the body from birth (congenital limb anomalies) or as an adjunct or compensate for damaged parts of the body after surgery (due to tumor gangrene, etc.).

According to their purpose, they share; dentures for the upper and lower limbs and other prostheses.

An orthosis (orthotic means)

Orthotic is an orthopedic device that leads, supports, relieves, fixes (stabilizes) or corrects the existing body part, and helps or controls loco functions (static, dynamic) in various types of damage to the locomotor apparatus

Orthoses are made from low-temperature thermoplastic materials, from high-temperature thermoplastic materials and from carbon fibers and metals, but are most often made by combined application of several types of materials (more flexible or harder materials) depending on their purpose.

The choice of orthosis is determined by the biomechanics of the functional deficit and, according to their purpose, are divided into corrective and stabilizing;

Corrective orthoses

This type of orthosis is used to treat deformities and their partial or complete correction and/or stop their progression.

Stabilization orthoses

This type of orthosis is used to support the endangered part of the body.
